About Greater Nassau Chorus

Greater Nassau Chorus (GNC) is an award-winning chapter of Sweet Adelines International (SAI) that has been bringing four-part a cappella harmony to Long Island since 1960.

Under the musical direction of SAI Certified Faculty Member and Master Director 700, Harriette Walters, GNC is one of the world’s leading singing groups in four-part barbershop harmony and is a top-ranked Sweet Adelines International chorus.

Since 1984, GNC has earned a medal in each New York area competition with scores that have repeatedly earned us the right to represent our region in worldwide competition. In November of 2013, GNC participated in our 11th Sweet Adelines International Competition in Honolulu, Hawaii, where we proudly earned a 7th place medal! We will be competing again at our Regional Competition in 2014, where the winner will earn the privilege of competing at the International level in Las Vegas in October of 2015!

Greater Nassau Chorus’ exciting musical journey has included performing the National Anthem at Madison Square Garden and holiday music at the Radio City Christmas Spectacular. We’ve even appeared on the nationally-broadcast CBS News Sunday Morning segment, “A Gleeful Song,” and were featured on News 12 Long Island and FIOS My Long Island TV (see videos).

Our repertoire of American popular standards, Broadway showstoppers, big band tunes, and other contemporary selections is appropriate for any event that can be enhanced by live music.  Click here to learn more about hiring us.

Greater Nassau Chorus meets regularly to learn, rehearse and perform a cappella music. Our members have opportunities to experience personal growth and achievement while forming friendships that last a lifetime. We’re looking for women singers who value the joy of chord-ringing, fun-filled music. Visit us any Tuesday evening! Learn more.

The Greater Nassau Philosophy:

Our journey is defined by creating a culture that encourages and fosters self development & growth and promotes unity. Our performances are not measured by the number of singers we put on stage or the numbers put on a score sheet; rather, they are measured by the sheer entertainment value to the audience. Our performance measurements are purely internal, improving, strategically long term. Our untapped generosity creates the love we share with everyone, for to give is to truly receive.
